Sudden spurt in cases attributed to backlog reports, says DC

Mysore/Mysuru: With the district reporting more than 4,000 COVID positive cases for three consecutive days (Jan.22, 23 and 24) causing concern among people, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bagadi Gautham clarified that the sudden spurt in the cases is because of addition of all backlog reports.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the National Voters Day this morning, he said that the sudden increase in the numbers is due to addition of all backlog reports that remained pending over the past few days.

“However, from today the number of cases is expected to  be only one-third of what was recorded in the past three days as the reports will be added on a daily basis,” he pointed out.

Replying to a question on reports that COVID cases in Mysuru will reach the peak in the first week of February, the DC said that as per his knowledge, Mysuru has already reached its peak and the pandemic is expected to subside in the coming days. When asked why schools were re-opened in a hurry when the district is witnessing a rapid spread of the virus, Dr. Gautham said that this was not his own decision . The schools were ordered to re-open following a Government order on Friday last covering all districts of the State except Bengaluru. On measures taken by the district administration, he said that a committee comprising the DHO, BEO and Tahsildar has been formed  and entrusted with the power to order shut down of schools, if they are found to be COVID clusters.

  • Reopening of schools by Govt in all districts outside Bangalore is the most unscientific decision. Schools were supposed to be shut in state until Jan 31st and not sure what was the hurry, who is putting pressure on Govt.
Both parents and students are getting frustrated with these kind of hasty decisions taken now and then. Hope sense prevails!

  • Netas find excuses and lies to escape the blunder they make. Backlog repoets huh! Set things in order before experimenting with children's lives. You are making an unwise decision that can lead to your own downfall. It is virus peaking time till April and you are giving assurances based on your gut feeling. Be realistic to the threat that involves the young.

  • I miss rohini sindhuri. I think she wouldn't have let the situation to be like this. It's just that your decision can affect the city Gautam sir. So i think you have to make smart, quick and efficient decisions at any situation.

  • The decision of reopening the schools is a blunder and political decision taken just to please their own party people. Parents are frustrated and mat outrage on this decision. There wasn't any precise reason why they took this random and lame decision. My 9 year old boy knows it's just a blunder of any idiot's lifetime and the government thinks they have taken the "so called" right decision. Most untruthful people are holding the most responsible positions in the current running government. They are playing with children's life. Will they take the entire responsibility if something happens to our kids? Hopeless group of people have come in a team to run the state government. Heights of stupidity

  • @Gowtham
You miss Sindhuri? She is married to a Reddy!! She has her won problems in not listening to ministers.
These DCs are mere rubber stamps.
This must be a government -ministerial decision, meaning the minister-in-charge of Mysuru district, simply given force by the DC.
Schools are open in every country in the world.

  • @Nandini. Marrying is ones personal choice. Don't be judgmental. What counts is ones ability to perform and serve, and Ms. Sindhuri served the public well.

  • Reopening of school was done because nearly 95% of schools are run by politicians and they have a fear that they may not be able to collect fees if schools are closed. So they have opened the schools thereby putting the lives of children in danger. We are in a democratic country run by all illiterates. That is the agony.
