Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers have intensified their protests demanding a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs. 5,500 per tonne for the 2026-27 crushing season.

Various farmer organisations, under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Kabbu Belegarara Samanvaya Samithi, staged a protest in front of the new Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Siddarthanagar this morning.

Led by farmer leaders Kurubur Shanthakumar, Badagalapura Nagendra, Hallikere Hundi Bhagyaraj, Attalli Devaraj, Manju Kiran and others, hundreds of farmers, who assembled near the old KMF Milk Dairy on Male Mahadeshwara Road, took out a procession till the DC Office and tried to barge inside the DC Office compound but were prevented by the Police. A few protesters climbed the compound and gate of the DC Office.

When they were stopped, they blocked the busy main road and staged a demonstration causing a lot of inconvenience to motorists. They also tried to cook food on the road but were prevented by Police. The protest was on when we went to the press.
