Mysuru: A woman Supervisor of the MCC’s Night Shelter Home on Narayana Shastry Road here was injured when a part of the roof collapsed on her.
The injured Supervisor identified as Manjula is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in city.
As no homeless people were present in the dilapidated night shelter, a major tragedy was averted.
Though the State Government had sanctioned Rs. 1.5 crore for the repairs and renovation of the building six years ago, the MCC officials have not bothered to utilise the funds and have left the building in a dilapidated state resulting in the roof of two rooms collapsing.
Even the gate of the building in broken, the place inside the compound of the building has become a parking space for private vehicles and the surrounding of the building has become a place for the public to attend nature’s call.
The only thing that the MCC officials did was, they visited the building on learning about the roof collapse.
The MCC had opened the Night Shelter for the homeless and with the help of NGOs they used to bring the homeless lying on footpaths and other places to the shelter during nights. If the officials concerned do not take this matter seriously, major tragedy is sure to take place in the Night Shelter Home which is in a dilapidated condition.
