Bengaluru, Sept.3 (US)- The State Government has decided to put an end to the menace of illegal BPL (Below Poverty Line) cards and has warned of stern action if people do not surrender the illegal BPL cards. In a notification issued by the Dept. of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, it is stated that a few families which are economically sound have obtained BPL cards by providing false information.
It is alleged that a few persons filing Income Tax returns and in possession of houses bigger than 1000 sq.ft have obtained BPL cards. It is further alleged that people working in Government sectors like Education, Transport, Energy, Railways and Police Departments have obtained BPL cards in the name of their family members. The misuse is said to have been done even by bank employees, advocates, auditors, contractors and the list goes on.
Govt. has stipulated a maximum annual family income of Rs.1.2 lakh and has instructed people in possession of illegal BPL cards to return it to the Department office before Sept.30, failing which strict action would be taken.
