Survey of farmer families to be done, says CM

Bengaluru: As a measure to double the income of farmers, the Government has decided to conduct a survey of farmer families in the State.

Presiding over the newly formed Secondary Agriculture Department at Bengaluru on Saturday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that measures will be taken to double farmers income based on the data recorded from the survey.

Stressing on the need for formulating plans for doubling of farmer incomes, Bommai said that the survey will be carried out in four districts as a pilot project.

Pointing out that the Department will function independently from the original one, Bommai said that the Secondary Department will focus on integrated farming activities such as dairy farming, aquaculture, cattle rearing etc.

Noting that technology based farming that is more productive and less expensive will be promoted, he said that the Government will help the farmers to find local markets and as well as other marketing platforms.

He further said that the officials must concentrate on popularising digital concept among the farming community for market expansion. The Secondary Agriculture Department should work towards changing the centuries old mindset of the farmers, he added.
