Nanjangud: Desi games has become an integral part of Suttur Jathra to keep the popular rural indoor games alive and to revive interest among urbanites too.
Students from 55 schools participated in the Desi games held yesterday which featured Aliguli Mane, Anekallu, Chaduranga, Chowka Bhara and Haavu-Yeni, which have been proved to increase the concentration and planning skills among children.
Students from Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Shivamogga, Davanagere and Kolar districts participated in the event.
Prizes will be given away to winners and citation and memento every participants. A group of Physical Education teachers too participated in the games.
An attractive Cattle Fair
Going by tradition prevalent for the last five decades, a Cattle Fair was organised yesterday at the ongoing Suttur Jathra. Colourfully decorated cattle and sheep participated in the Fair.
Nanjegowda of Anthanahalli village in Channarayapatna taluk had displayed his one pair of Oxen priced at Rs.9.5 lakh, the highest price tag at the Fair.
Rudregowda from Mandya, a regular participant at the Fair had displayed his one pair of Oxen at Rs.4 lakh, followed by Ramesh Raj also from Mandya showcasing a pair of oxen at Rs.2.20 lakh. The price tag went on till Rs.40,000 a pair depending on breed and quality.
