Nanjangud: Pailwan Vijayendra of Darasaguppe in Srirangapatna taluk won ‘Suttur Kesari’ title while Hosahalli Pailwan Suraj won ‘Suttur Kumar’ title at the 43rd National Wrestling tournament organised as part of the Annual Suttur Jathra Mahotsava at Suttur in Nanjangud taluk yesterday.
Vijayendra defeated Pailwan Arjun of Lingadevarakoppal to bag the title while Pailwan Suraj downed Suryakanth of Nanjangud’s Vokkalageri Garadi in a tight contest.
In the Marpeet event, Pailwan Pavan Kumar of Haryana’s Sonepat Akhara, downed Prakash Patil Ingalagi of Belagavi in a close bout that went on for more than an hour, when Prakash retired from the contest after suffering an injury.
The Suttur Jathra wrestling tournament saw as many as 79 bouts ending in a draw. All the participant wrestlers were distributed Certificates and a Shield.

Earlier in the day, Chamarajanagar MP Sunil Bose and MLC Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah inaugurated the tournament. Siddaraju, Shankar Jaani and Hosahalli Shivanna were the referees of the tournament.
MLAs K. Harishgowda, Sharanagouda Kandakur and C. Puttarangashetty, MLC Dr. D. Thimmaiah, Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha Bengaluru District President S. Guruswamy, Salur Mutt Seer Shanthamallikarjuna Swamiji, Kambaleeshwara Mutt Seer Chennabasava Swamiji, former Valmiki ST Development Corporation Chairman S.C. Basavaraju, social worker Padmanabha Rao of Nanjangud and others were present.
