Swachh Bharat Lesson: An eye-opener for citizens

Sir,

Kudos to Madetira Thimmaiah, ex-GP President, Kadagadaalu in Kodagu district, for reminding the responsibilities to the youths of the country to keep our country clean by calling the youths from our city to come and pick-up the trash thrown by them on to the roadside in Kodagu (Swachh Bharat Lesson, SOM dated Oct. 31) and it needs appreciation from one and all for his action. Though they have done an avoidable act, the youths also need appreciation for not ignoring the call and quickly going back to the place and picking the trash.

Adding to this incident, very recently, I have seen someone throwing an empty ice-cream cup from a moving car on one of the main roads of the city.  Elders accompanying in the car could have prevented it if the cup is thrown by a child. This type of incidents dilute the efforts of the civic workers, who are trying to keep the cities clean.

Though these are isolated instances, it should become an eye-opener for the citizens in turning our country to ‘Swachh Bharat’.
