‘Swinging game’ kills girl, her brother in Somwarpet

Somwarpet: What appeared to be a swinging game with a saree tied to the ceiling bar turned tragic for a family that has lost two little ones yesterday. They were found dead with their throats entangled into a saree inside their house.

The incident was reported yesterday at Unjinalli village near Somwarpet and the victims are 15-year-old Maniksha and her brother 12-year-old Poornesh. They are the children of H.R. Girish, a farmer by profession.

As there are no schools this time, the children headed out to their grandparents’ house nearby to play at around 11 am. There they took out a saree from the shelf and tied it to the ceiling bar to make a swing to play. There was no one to supervise the children as the elderly couple had been to their coffee estate.

In the process of playing a swinging game, the saree got entangled into the throats of the two children and both died on the spot.

The incident came to light after the grandparents returned home in the afternoon. Shocked, the elderly couple called Girish and narrated the incident.

Girish rushed to the spot and informed the Police where he stated that the children died accidentally while playing.

Somwarpet Police Inspector Mahesh said that a case of unnatural death has been registered and they were waiting for the post-mortem report.
