SWR Mysuru Division implements Total Fuel Management System

Mysore/Mysuru: The South Western Railway (SWR), Mysuru Division, has implemented Total Fuel Management (TFM) System from Dec.1, 2021 in Railway Consumer Depot (RCD) at Sakleshpur to refuel High-Speed Diesel (HSD) to Railway locomotives.

An MoU was signed between South Western Railway and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited  (MRPL) on Nov. 23, 2021.

MRPL, a Fortune 500 company, has partnered with the Indian Railways to manage its loco-fueling operations through a completely automated system, called Total Fuel Management, a first-of-its-kind over South Western Railway.

At present, the Railway Consumer Depots (RCDs) monitor the use of fuel and expenditure of diesel manually which leaves scope for wastage as well as excess expenditure. TFM is a fully automated online fuel management system to check pilferage / wastage and bring transparency in fuel management.

With the commissioning of this, the real-time information about inventory of fuel, its receipt, issue, inspection and fuel tank calibration will facilitate better management decision and inventory control and will also save expenditure, fuel-related information including consumption and expenditure will be also known on a real-time basis.

The system envisages rationalisation of the fuelling pattern sourcing most of the fuel from States offering a lower price.

Henceforth, MRPL will manage the entire operations of the RCDs such as storing and disbursing of HSD, maintenance of pumps, pipeline and distribution valves, security and safety of stored HSD stock bringing more expertise and professionalism in fuel management, according to a press release from Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Sr.PRO.
