T.S. Santhanam Memorial National Seniors Tennis Championship: City’s Nagaraj wins double crown

City’s senior tennis player R. Nagaraj of Income-Tax Department, taking part in the T.S. Santhanam Memorial Seniors Tennis Championship-2020, held at Mylapore Club, Chennai, from Jan.20 to 24, won the 55+ singles and doubles titles on Friday.

In the 55-plus men’s singles final, top-seed Nagaraj beat Nirmal Kumar 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the title. In the semi-finals, he got the better of Karthik Kailash 6-3, 6-1 and in the quarter-finals beat Ramu 6-0, 6-0. In the pre-quarter-finals, Nagaraj beat R. Balasubramanian 6-2, 6-1 to move ahead.

In the 55-plus doubles event, Nagaraj, teaming up with Sanjeev Mehra, won the title beating Dr. Karthik Kailash and Nirmal Kumar 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-3. In the semi-finals, the duo combined well to beat Madhusudhan and Suresh 6-0, 6-2 and in the quarter-finals they beat Ramu and Thyagarajan 6-0, 6-2 to forge ahead.
