Sir,
This has reference to the report “Social distancing goes for a toss in city” (SOM dated Apr.3). It is indeed very distressing to note that people are not maintaining social distancing while purchasing groceries, vegetables and fruits at markets or stores. This includes the so-called educated elite of society living in apartments.
These people are found rushing towards the delivery van being sent round to their apartment gates, for purchase of vegetables and fruits, without maintaining social distancing and throwing caution to the wind. It is also seen that the suppliers are placing the products in crates on the roadside, which again poses a grave risk in spread of the Coronavirus.
It is strongly suggested to instruct these suppliers not to place their products in crates on the roadside. They may instead be placed in the van itself and the items be delivered to the buyers after taking their requirements and ensuring that the buyers do not crowd around in groups but maintain social distancing as laid down in the Government’s lockdown rules.
Strict legal action ought to be taken against all those not following the social distancing norms and also flouting the lockdown rules.
