Take Pramoda Devi’s concerns seriously, says Simha

Mysuru: Former Mysuru-Kodagu MP Prathap Simha has urged the State Government to take seriously the concerns raised by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar over mismanagement during the Dasara celebrations.

Speaking to reporters in Mysuru this morning, Simha said, the Wadiyar dynasty had continued the Mysuru Dasara tradition after the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire.

“The Government must seriously consider the issues raised by Maharani Pramoda Devi. When lakhs of people gather for an event, minor lapses and deviations are bound to occur. I do not intend to blame anyone at this stage, but steps should be taken to ensure that such issues do not recur in the future,” he said.

Responding to Minister Priyank Kharge’s remarks on RSS, Simha accused him of ignoring more pressing public issues. Referring to the rape and murder of a young girl from the nomadic community during the previous Dasara, Prathap Simha said, the Police had identified and arrested the accused within a day. The Court later sentenced the accused to death and ordered compensation of Rs. 1 lakh, he said.

“The deceased girl was from Kalaburagi and belonged to the Dalit community. Yet, you have not spoken even once about the child or the compensation provided to her family. Is your concern limited only to people belonging to your own category among Dalits?” he asked.
