Cricket is a very popular game in our country and Mysuru has been from time to time produced talented players who have gone to play representative cricket in different levels for the State and the country. Our city’s upcoming cricketer S.J. Nikin Jose has been a consistent performer with the bat in the State cricketing scene and also in National U-19 level. Nikin, representing Mysuru Zone in the KSCA Sri S.A. Srinivasan Memorial Inter-Zonal Inter-Mofussil Tournament-2017 at Bengaluru from June 13 to 22, performed well. He was an important member of the Mysuru Zone team which won the Inter-Zone U-23 Inter-Mofussil title for the second time in a row this year. Nikin, an opening batsman, scored a well compiled 130 against Dharwad Zone and helped his team register a 35-run win. He is our ‘Star This Week.’
Nikin, a PUC student of Vijaya Vittala College, Mysuru, has represented Karnataka in the junior level and has captained the State U-19, U-16 teams. He had good scores as an opening batsman in the Cooch Behar Tournament in the 2017 season and earned selection to the National Cricket Academy’s U-19 South Zone camp held last month.
In the Sri S.A. Srinivasan Memorial U-23 Inter-Zonal Inter-Mofussil Tournament-2017, Nikin scored 130 in Mysuru Zone’s innings against Dharwad Zone and helped his team post a total of 306 for five in 50 overs. In reply, Dharwad were restricted to 261 for eight in 50 overs.
He also played in the matches against Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Tumakuru and Raichur Zones. Earlier in the Group ‘D’ Round IV of Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Tourney-2017, leading Karnataka team against Saurashtra at Rajkot, Nikin scored a brilliant 161 in Karnataka’s first innings score of 356.
Nikin performed well in the National Cricket Academy’s matches and scored a double hundred for South Zone. Nikin performed well in the All India Tournament for the Thimmappiah Trophy last season and also in various other tournaments representing Mysuru Zone in the Inter-Zonal level in the U-19 section. He also took part in this KPL representing Shivamogga.
Encouraged by his parents, KSCA Mysuru Zone and his club Jo Jo CC, Nikin has got the talent in him to play higher level of cricket for the State and the country in the days to come.
