Shooting is one of the competitive sporting event in the world sporting scene. Many Indian shooters have earned fame in the International and National level. With the exploits of Abhinav Bindra in the Olympics, Indian shooting got an uplift and many shooters have taken up to the sport. Mysuru also has its share of success in the shooting field with multi-talented youngster Rakshit Shastry, representing India in the Intl. Shooting Competition of Hanover, Germany, on May 9 and winning silver medal in the 10m Air Pistol Men Team Event. He is our ‘Star This Week.’
Rakshith (97+94+88+92+93 +94=558), teaming up with Anmol Jain (564) and Pankaj Kalakoti (580), returned with a cumulative score of 1702 and secured silver medal.
Kazakhstan ‘A’ team won the gold (1712 points) and Germany took bronze medal (1698).
Rakshith earlier got selected for the Indian team trials in the 10m Air Pistol event after his excellent performance in the 62nd National Rifle Shooting Championship which was held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala in December 2018.
Rakshit had a overall score of 568 out of 600 with 16-inner 10s and is one among the four Karnataka shooters selected for the Indian team trials which was held in Delhi. Rakshit finished 28th in the 10m Air Pistol event in the Nationals and 50th in the 50m Free Pistol event.
A Technical Purchase Engineer at Vyoda Pvt. Ltd., sister concern of N. Ranga Rao & Sons in Mysuru, Rakshit is the son of R. Rajalakshmi.
He took up to shooting in 2015 after seeing his friend Vipul shooting. Rakshit won his first State-level medal in Open Sight Air Rifle after 14-days of training under ex-Army Marksman Suresh M. Subanna, Hon. Secretary, Mysore District Rifle shooting Association.
Rakshit till date is being coached by Suresh in Mysuru and has so far won 46 State, and national medals. A multi-talented sports person, Rakshit is a Black belt holder in Karate, a medal-winning swimmer and also plays table tennis.
He has won recognised and felicitated by Union Ministry of Health, Dr. Harsh Vardhan for creating virtual tour of Knowledge Park and Audiometric Block at All India Institute of Speech & Hearing, Mysuru.
Rakshit intends to work hard in the days to come and aims to represent the country in shooting in the international level.
