Tennis is a global sport and Mysuru has been producing talented tennis players from time to time who have gone on to represent the country in different levels. One such player who has made his mark in the National and State-level is Mysuru’s upcoming tennis player Mustafa Raja.
Mustafa Raja has been performing consistently in the national-level U-12 tournaments and is among the top sub-junior level tennis players in the country. Recently, taking part in the AITA U-12 Championship Series tennis tournament for U-12 boys conducted by the Top Spin Academy, Bengaluru which concluded on Saturday, Mustafa Raja won a grand double by clinching the U-12 boys singles and doubles titles. He is our “Star This Week.”
Mustafa Raja won the U-12 boys singles title beating Prakash Bhuvan (Kar) 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 in the final. In the semi-final, he staved off the challenge put up by Keshav Goel (WB) 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to enter the title round.
Mustafa Raja also won the U-12 boys doubles title teaming up with Jason M. David to beat Keshav Goel (WB) and Arnav Paparkar (Mah) 6-3, 6-1 in the final and completed a fine double. Mustafa Raja, son of Mutruza Raja and Farida Raja, is a fifth standard student at Excel Public school, Mysuru. Mustafa Raja trains at R. Nagaraj’s Tennis Centre and is coached by R.Nagaraj.
He is ranked amongst the top two players in the State in the sub-junior section and is also ranked in the National-level.
In the OIC, AITA Super Series tennis tournament held at Guwahati from July 17-21, 2017, Mustafa Raja won the U-12 doubles title.
Taking part in the AITA Talent series U-14 tennis tournament in Trivandrum, Mustafa Raja won the U-14 boys doubles title in May 2017.
He also won the U-12 boys singles title in the AITA Talent series U-12 tennis tournament for the Manasa Sarovar Pushkarni Cup 2017 held at Mysuru in April 2017.
He has a fluent game with some excellent ground strokes both on his forehand and back hand.
Mustafa Raja is a keen learner of the game and intends to work hard in the days to come and climb up the ladder in the State and National-levels in the sub-junior and junior sections.
