Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore Open Forum has organised a talk on ‘Understanding and Interpreting Buddha and Buddhism’ by Prof. Shivaji Jois, former Principal, Banumaiah College, Mysuru at 10.30 am on Jan. 28 (Sunday) at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, Mysuru.
Prof. Shivaji Jois hails from Sampige near Mudabidare, Dakshina Kannada. He obtained his MA degree from the University of Mysore in 1971. Joining Banumaiah College in 1971 as a lecturer, he served there in various positions before retiring as Principal in 2006. He has contributed a large number of articles and research papers on the works of Panje Mangesha Rao, Govinda Pai, S.V. Parameshwara Bhat and others.
Taking interest in Buddha and Buddhism, he has written on the works of Rao Bahaddur M. Shama Rao, Bidare Ashwathanarayana Shastri and others. He has been associated with the publication of many commemorative issues of scholars such as Prof. K.B. Prabhuprasad, Prof. K.V. Arkanath and others.
Prof. Shivaji Jois will be talking about the history and relevance of Buddha and Buddhism tomorrow. The talk is open to all (Mob: 94498-19536).
