Talk on ‘Dynamics of Religion in Contemporary India’

Prof. R. Indira has had an illustrious career in teaching, research, outreach, activism & leadership in the field of Sociology for nearly five decades. She has been the Chairperson, Department of Social Studies and Chairperson of Women’s Studies, University of Mysore (UoM) and President of Indian Sociological Studies. She has been a two-time Fulbright Scholar, four-time Shastri Fellow & a Senior Fellow of the ICSSR. Prof. Indira has been Visiting Professor to the University of Johannesburg, South Africa & University of Iowa, USA & Academic Director of the ‘Study Abroad Program in Global Health’ of the Florida International University, USA.

She has mentored the gender course in Study India Programmes offered by universities in USA & Canada.  She is currently Visiting Professor, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair, University of Mysore & Invited Faculty, School of Social Sciences, M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru.

Recognizing her signal contributions to the discipline of Sociology in India, the Indian Sociological Society conferred the Life time Achievement Award on Prof. Indira for the year 2022.

Prof. Indira was conferred with the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Mooknayak Award by the Karnataka Madhyama Academy for her columns. She has delivered more than 500 invited lectures across the country and on international platforms.
