Talk on Parkinson’s disease

Mysore/Mysuru: Every April, Parkinson’s Awareness Month reminds us of the importance of understanding and supporting individuals living with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

PD is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterised by cardinal symptoms such as slowness of movement, tremors, rigidity and postural instability, and it is most commonly seen in older individuals.

With early intervention, family involvement and consistent therapy practices, individuals with PD can maintain effective communication and a better quality of life.

The Department of Speech Language Sciences at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru, is organising an orientation talk on Apr. 17 at 10 am on speech and communication changes in individuals with PD.  This programme aims to spread awareness among individuals with PD, their caregivers and family members, ensuring that every person with Parkinson’s receives the attention and therapy they deserve.

Healthcare professionals who treat patients with PD, such as physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists may disseminate this information to those who may benefit from it. For details contact N. Sashirekha, Junior Research Fellow on Mob: 99169-59785.
