Talk on ‘Sugama Sangeetha’ by H.R. Leelavathi

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore Open Forum has organised a talk on ‘Sugama Sangeetha Birth, Growth and Status – Then & Now’ by H.R. Leelavathi at 10.30 am on May 27 at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 1st Phase, Mysuru [Mob: 94498-19536].

Leelavathi is a light music (Sugama Sangeetha) singer who was trained by Vid. N. Chennakeshavaiah and A.V. Krishnamachar (Padmacharan). She trained under Jnana Prakash Gosh of Kolkatta and Deben Sharma of Gauhati. She learnt Rabindra Sangeet under Robin Roy of Kolkata. She has been an ‘A’ Grade artiste for AIR for 58 years. She has composed light music for Doordarshan and programmes of AIR, Mysuru, Bengaluru, Dharwad and Mangaluru. She has performed in music programmes all over India and abroad. She is the author of many books on music. She has held prominent positions in many Music Parishads and Academies. She will trace the birth, growth and development of light music in Kannada and other languages.
