Taluk bus stands to house Government offices: Minister

Bengaluru:  In a bid to take administration closer to the people and also to save precious time and money of the public, the Government has come up with a proposal to house its offices at taluk KSRTC bus stands.

Speaking to press persons here yesterday, Transport Minister D.C. Thammanna said that the Department would build Multi-storyed buildings for the purpose at taluk KSRTC bus stands, to house key Government offices.

Pointing out that buildings will be built at 50 bus stands including Mandya, Maddur, Malavalli, Hassan, Channarayapatna, Arasikere and Byndoor in the first phase, he said the buildings will have all the necessary infrastructure and also have adequate space for hotels, rest rooms etc.

Stating that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has been appealed to release Rs. 250 crore for executing the plan, the Minister said that the location of many Government offices in a single complex will be of much benefit to the people, who will be saved of time and money.

Noting that the construction of a multi-storeyed complex that houses Government offices at bus stands will not only bring more revenue to KSRTC, but will also help in upkeep and maintenance of bus stands, Thammanna maintained that the plan was widely appreciated, as it would by and large benefit the people.

Referring to the KSRTC’s new initiatives, he said that 3,200 newly designed buses will be purchased soon and measures have been taken to put an end to corruption in purchase of spare parts. He further said that the KSRTC is getting fully equipped with newly designed buses and other passenger facilities to take on private bus operators.
