Mysuru: The protests in the city over the omission of 6-time NR Constituency MLA Tanveer Sait from D.K. Shivakumar Cabinet continued for the second day today, with supporters of the senior Congress MLA staging a demonstration at Buddha Circle in Kyathamaranahalli.
“MLA Tanveer Sait has been a loyal soldier of the Congress having been elected 6 consecutive times from NR Assembly segment of the city since 2002. The senior MLA should have been considered for a Cabinet berth. But this has not happened, which has forced his supporters to hit the streets. We appeal the Congress High Command to appoint Sait as a Cabinet Minister at least for the remaining term of the current Assembly and render justice to him,” the irate protesters maintained.
After staging the demonstration for some time, some of the protesters left for Bengaluru for submitting a representation to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar demanding a ministerial berth for Tanveer Sait, who is one of the most senior MLAs of the party.
Ex-serviceman Girish, local leader Nataraj and others were present during the stir.
Candle light demo
Expressing anguish over their leader Tanveer Sait not getting a Cabinet berth, supporters of Tanveer Sait staged a candle light demonstration in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue in Town Hall premises yesterday.
“Tanveer Sait is a Congress loyalist who has worked for the party for decades. It is condemnable that Sait has not been considered for a Cabinet berth despite being the NR MLA for 6 consecutive terms. The Congress High Command should take note of his contributions to the party and give him a Cabinet berth,” they maintained.
Contending that this was not a protest but a gathering of party workers seeking a ministerial berth for Sait, they demanded justice to Sait by immediately inducting him into the Cabinet.
Former Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, former Deputy Mayor Shanthakumari, party leaders Syed Iqbal, G.N. Manjunath, Shaheen Shah, Tabraiz, Mohammad Ali, Raghuraj Urs, S. Rajesh, Rajini Annaiah, Bank Manju, Latha Ranganath, Kaginele Mahendra, Kumarashetty, Afroz Khan and others took part.
