Mysuru: The Udayagiri Police have cracked a major house break case that took place in the residence of N.I. Cauvery Emporium owner Ilyas Baig at Rajiv Nagar on Nov.17, with the arrest of a school teacher.
The arrested has been identified as Syed Tajmul, 31, a government school teacher at Gundlupet and a resident of 5th cross, Rajiv Nagar first phase, near Madegowda Circle in city.
The Police have recovered 639 gm of gold jewellery worth Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 60,000 cash from him.
Ilyas Baig, along with his family members had left for a hotel on Nov.17 in connection with the wedding of his daughter, after locking the house.
Syed Tajmul, who was a regular visitor to Baig’s house where he was engaged as a private tutor to the latter’s children, had sneaked away with a spare key of the house.
Tajmul, after coming to know that no one was in the house, entered the house with the help of the stolen key and decamped with Rs. 25 lakh gold jewellery and Rs. 1 lakh cash.
Soon after the burglary came to light, Ilyas Baig lodged a complaint with the jurisdictional Udayagiri Police. The Police who conducted investigation, picked up Tajmul on Nov.22 following a tip off. During interrogation, Tajmul confessed to have kept the stolen jewellery and cash at the safe locker in Syndicate Bank at Gundlupet following which 639 gms of gold jewellery and Rs. 60,000 were recovered.
The nabbing and recovery operation was carried out by PI P.P. Santosh and staff under the guidance of DCP Dr. Vikram Amate and Devaraja ACP Gajenda Prasad.
