Mysore/Mysuru: Two teachers, who were proceeding on their bike, were killed on the spot, while a seven-year-old boy escaped miraculously when a truck ran over the bike near Arjunahalli on Mysuru-Hassan Highway last evening.
The deceased have been identified as M.R. Ravishankar (32), a resident of Megalapura near Yelwal in the taluk and Suresh (44), a resident of Kollegal taluk. Suresh’s son seven-year-old Manvit, escaped miraculously with minor injuries and has been hospitalised.
On Sunday at about 3.30 pm, Ravishankar, a Karate instructor, Suresh, a teacher of a Government School near Dharmasthala and his son Manvit left Megalapura to Dharmasthala on Bajaj Avenger bike (KA-09-HM-3296).
When they were proceeding on Mysuru-Hassan Highway and neared Arjunahalli, a speeding truck (KA-51-A-3325), in a bid to overtake an autorickshaw, rammed into the bike. Due to the impact, Manvit was thrown to the side of the highway, while Ravishankar and Suresh came under the wheels of the truck and were killed on the spot, it is learnt.
K.R. Nagar Police, who rushed to the spot, shifted the bodies to the Taluk Hospital mortuary.
Police said that post-mortem will be conducted today and the bodies will be handed over to the family members. K.R. Nagar Police, who have registered a case, have arrested the truck driver and have seized the truck.
