Teachers must act as social engineers

Mysuru: The contemporary teachers are expected to act as social engineers to build the students’ abilities and attitudes to make them responsible citizens, said Dr. N. N. Prahallada, former faculty of RIE NCERT Mysuru while addressing the teachers of DAV Public School, Visweshwaranagar, as part of  their enrichment programme at the school premises recently.

He said teaching is a social act but learning is an individual act. Teaching means communication. Teachers will have to plan their lesson in such a way that while delivering the same it becomes systematic and meaningful for the students.

How best a teacher teaches is not that important, rather how much students understand and learn is much more important, he added.

According to National Curriculum Framework (NCF)-2005, no teacher should  label any student as dull, intelligent, useless etc. because each student has his or her own pace of learning, he said adding treat each student as a jewel and assist  them to perform better.

Shobha, Principal and Mangala, Vice-Principal, DAV Public School, were present. As many as 140 teachers participated in the enrichment programme.
