Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that the New National Education Policy (NEP) is a game-changer, Chamaraja MLA L. Nagendra urged teachers to get prepared for implementation of the new policy.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Teacher’s Day programme organised recently by Mysuru Kannada Vedike at Freedom Fighters Park in Subbarayanakere here, during which six teachers were conferred Dr. S. Radhakrishnan award.
Pointing out that children of the current generation were acquiring more knowledge through Internet, Nagendra said that at the same time, teachers too must become updated by gaining knowledge through more studies and research.
Noting that Dr. Radhakrishnan had served University of Mysore, he said that it is a matter of pride that Dr. Radhakrishnan, who started his career as a teacher, went on to become the President of India.
Recalling the names of some of the teachers during his school days, Nagendra said that teachers play a crucial role in moulding the future of children.
Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Member Gubbigoodu Ramesh, who is also a regular columnist of Mysooru Mithra, a sister concern of Star of Mysore, in his address, said that Dr. Radhakrishnan went on to become the President of India through his vast knowledge of the country. He further said that Dr. Radhakrishnan should be credited for taking the country through in difficult times.
Continuing, Gubbigoodu Ramesh said in the past, there were several challenges before the students. But in the changed scenario, it is the teachers who are facing a big challenge at a time when technology is making rapid advancements. Pointing out that the time has come for the teachers to hone their skills, with online classes gaining prominence during the current COVID-19 crisis, he said that teachers must become familiar with Digital Mode and Modems.
Stating that there is no age limit for learning, he said that teachers have the responsibility of building a society based on cultural and moral values.
Kannada Year
Gubbigoodu Ramesh said that Kannada Development Authority has planned to celebrate ‘Kannada Year’ (Kannada Varshacharane) from November.
Pointing out that the programme is aimed at promoting Kannada in all Government Departments, he said that in respect of Education Department, the teachers must use digital platforms for promoting digital education and language.
A total of six Government teachers — G.S. Ramegowda of Hegganur Government School, G.K. Lokesh of K.M. Halli School in H.D.Kote taluk, C. Uma of Hampapura School, B. Kamakshi of M. Kannenahalli School, P. Nannesh of Hadinarumole School and Chikkamahadeva of Deaf & Dumb School at Tilaknagar in Mysuru, were conferred Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Teacher Award on the occasion.
Social worker Bharath Kumar, Teacher S. Doreswamy, Mysuru Kannada Vedike President S. Balakrishna, office-bearers Nalabeedi Ravi, Palace Babu and others were present.
