Mysore/Mysuru: Teen music wonder Sooryagayathri captivated the audience through her melodious voice at the Grand Karnatak Musical Concert organised by Raaga Vaibhava Charitable Trust at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road here yesterday.
The 17-year-old thrilled the audience for almost three hours through her melodious vocal concert. She sang Lalgudi Jayaraman’s Padavarna (Tamil) which captivated the audience. Some of the other songs that came through her melodious voice included Kalyani Raagapalane, Muthuswami Dikshitar’s ‘Ganapate Mahamaate’ and ‘Akhilandeshwari’, Thyagaraja’s ‘Inta Soukhya’, Purandaradasa’s ‘Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma’ etc.
She was accompanied by Vidwan P.V. Sanil on violin, Vidwan P.V. Anilkumar (Sooryagayathri’s father) on mridanga and Vidwan Krishna Kumar on ghata.
City Industrialist R. Guru, Musician Dr. Padmavathi Narasimhan, Trust Secretary D. Keertikumar, Trustee Dr. Maya Sitaram and others were present during the programme.
Brief profile of Sooryagayathri
Sooryagayathri, a native of Purameri village in Vadakara of North Kerala, was born to P.V. Anilkumar and P.K. Divya couple. After learning her early music lessons under the tutelage of Anandi and Nishanth, she turned to vocal music and devotional music. She trained under Kuldeep M. Pai and honed her musical talent.
She won the prestigious M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship from Mumbai’s Shanmukhananda Sabha at an young age of 10 years and Trivandram Kalanidhi Sangeeth Rathna award. Doing her Bhajan Concerts across India and abroad (South Africa, Singapore etc), she has won million hearts.
