Mysuru: Burglars, who broke into a temple by breaking open the lock of the temple’s rear door, have decamped with the gold mangalaya chain of the deity, silver ornaments and cash from the hundi. The burglary took place at Sri Lakshmi and Beera Temple at Doddamaragowdanahalli village at Yelwal hobli.
The Temple Priest, after performing puja on Dec. 27 evening, locked the temple doors and went home. When he opened the temple the next day morning and went inside, he found the rear door open and on taking a closer look he found the lock broken.
The shocked Priest then rushed into the sanctum sanctorum only to find the 10-gram gold mangala chain worth about Rs. 40,000 worn by the Goddess, 700 grams silver ornaments worth about Rs. 35,000 and cash in the hundi stolen.
The Priest, who informed about the robbery to the villagers, lodged a complaint at Yelwal Police Station. Yelwal Police, who have registered a case in this regard, have launched a hunt to trace and nab the burglars.
