‘Temples are a treasure of history and heritage’

Mysuru:  Department of Studies in Ancient History and Archaeology, Mysore University had organized a workshop on ‘Indian temples’ at the Department premises in Manasagangothri here this morning. Over 100 researchers participated in the workshop.

Speaking as the Chief Guest,  Dr. Gavisiddaiah, In-charge Director, Department of Archaeology, Heritage and Museums opined that Indian temples have enough material for research work.

He contended that every temple has a history of itself with invaluable architecture which should be probed.

Speaking on the occasion Mysore University In-charge Vice-Chancellor C. Basavaraju observed that research work on temples was on the decline and added that the University was always keen to give more thrust for research work.

He opined that temples should not be visited by people just to offer puja to the deity but suggested people to devote some time to study the intricate architecture there which speak volumes of history and heritage.

Earlier, the workshop was inaugurated by M.S. Krishnamurthy, retired Professor of the Department. Chairman and Convenor Dr.K. Prabhu, Co-Convenors Dr. V. Shobha, Dr.G. Kariappa, KSOU Dean (Academic) Dr. Mahadevi and others were present.
