Temporary relief to Saraswathipuram 6th Main Road residents

Corporator gets excavated mud removed from front of houses, assures of completing UGD works soon

Mysore/Mysuru: Unscientific Underground Drainage (UGD) works, which had forcibly ‘quarantined’ the residents of Saraswathipuram 6th Main Road as they were unable to come out of their houses or even take out their vehicles for work or during emergencies, can now breathe a sigh of relief as area Corporator Shivakumar has got the excavated mud dumped in front of houses removed and a temporary pathway has been made for the residents to move about.

A news item highlighting the problems faced by the residents with the title ‘Unscientific UGD works ‘Quarantine’ Saraswathipuram 6th Main Road residents’ was published in Star of Mysore on Aug. 4, following which area Corporator Shivakumar took the initiative of clearing the excavated mud in front of houses and creating a temporary pathway for the residents to move about.

It may be recalled that the earth moving machine, which was deployed to dig a trench to lay new UGD pipes had dumped the excavated earth in front of houses which had forced the residents to stay indoors. Just a drizzle was enough to convert this dug up road in into a slushy mess resembling a paddy field.  With no place left for the residents to go out even to purchase medicines, they were forced to stay indoors.

There were problems with the Underground Drainage (UGD) System on the 6th Main Road, behind Kamakshi Hospital since many years and the residents had complained of foul smell emanating from it. Hence the works to replace the old pipes with new ones has been going on since two weeks and a manhole is also being constructed. But due to rains, the work has been delayed. The works would be completed at the  earliest, said Shivakumar, Corporator.
