Tenant attempts to sell rented house

Price finalised for Rs.45 lakh, receives Rs.1.99 lakh as advance from buyer

Mysuru: A man tried to sell a house he had taken on rent after making a buyer believe that the house was his and had also received advance payment for the house.

The man, who tried to cheat the buyer as well as the house owner, is Rajesh, a textile dealer and the victim, who had paid advance for the house is Dilip Kumar, a resident of Kuvempunagar in city.

Dilip used to go to Rajesh’s house regularly to buy clothes during which Rajesh used to tell him that he was the owner of the house. He had told Dilip that he was facing some financial problem and was selling the house.

Believing him, Dilip told Rajesh that he would buy the house and the price was fixed for Rs.45 lakh and Dilip had given Rs.1.99 lakh as advance to Rajesh, who told Dilip that he would get the house registered in his (Dilip) name within 11 months.

As years passed, Rajesh had not registered the house in Dilip’s name and suspecting something fishy, Dilip went near Rajesh’s house and enquired with the neighbours, who told him that Rajesh was a tenant and had taken the house on rent.

After coming to know that he has been cheated, Dilip lodged a complaint at Metagalli Police Station.
