Thank You

February 16, 2017

It was this day, nay this very evening, 39 years ago that Star of Mysore was born in this city as an Evening English Newspaper. Happily it continues to be your favourite eveninger.

From this evening, we will be entering 40th year of our publication. And as we do so, we gratefully remember all those who made it possible to reach this milestone and salute them with gratitude and humility.

Bringing out a special issue on our anniversary has been a tradition with us ever since the beginning of this newspaper. We are indeed beholden to our readers and advertisers for making this possible.

We have been following all along an independent editorial policy without aligning ourselves with any political party, community, group, ideology or vested interest and this policy will continue. Our first editorial titled “A Star Is Born” which is printed alongside, declares this policy more eloquently.

As a newspaper, we strongly believe our survival depends solely on our usefulness to the society and on the service we render to our readers and advertisers. Which is why we take up just causes and important issues in a crusading spirit to protect readers’ interest while widening our readership base. And advertisers get value for their money. After all, it is the credibility of Star of Mysore as a brand and its  pulling-power that should matter to our advertisers rather than the cost of advertising.

On this occasion, we also remember the truth that change is a constant in any organisation that wishes to grow — not just survive. And we are bracing ourselves for an array of changes from our pre-press to our printing technology. All this to ensure continuation of your addiction to Star of Mysore — for all the news of Namma Cheluva Mysuru. We have learned contributors who provide their expert views on issues current and of common interest. This is in addition to our weekly supplement on subjects of special interest.

Welcome. Sit back, relax, make yourself a nice cuppa and experience your reading pleasure every evening. Please feel free to give us your feedback on and perception of  Star of Mysore.

And finally a big “Thank You” — to our subscribers, advertisers, contributors, our staff, our agents and paper delivery boys who together have teamed up to make Star of Mysore a success story among evening newspapers in India. A very good evening to You.

I am 41 but can remember reading SOM from day 1! It’s always been a part of me since, everyday, including now, having left mysore 19 years back. Thank you for keeping Mysoreans connected!
At one time when we were teenagers my mom had subscribed to 3 papers of starofmysore to be delivered to home at the same time as my sister, brother and I would fight like dogs over it and sometimes it going to pieces. It lasted for 1 month when my dad got to know of it and gave us a talking to! 😀
Have read immensely happy news of dear ones here, and also immensely sad ones. SOM has been close to our hearts all along and this is not going to change it think! Wish SOM team all the success and prosperity. God bless!

Please feel free to correct my typos. I hit the send button without reviewing.

Congratulations on this wonderful journey, which is far from over! I started reading SOM during the extensive coverage of Veerappan’s menace and especially the gruesome killing of our young police officers (Insepector Dinesh, Inspector Jagannath and other respected personel) from Mysuru. I used to wait eagerly near the gate at 5pm to get a hold on to SOM first in the family. I share the same year of birth as SOM, exactly a month older :-)..
Thank you for living up to the true values of journalism, I have never seen a controversy surrounding SOM’s affiliation with any political party or any community.
Keep up the good work and wish you another zillion years of journalism. Last but not the least, this new look of the web page is really useful.. Congratulations once again..

    Congratulations on your 40th Anniversary.
I have read the paper edition from my days as a youth and now I am a vivid reader of SOM online edition from Atlanta, US
I keep close to my place with the news and happening of Mysore, through SOM
The new look & feel of SOM is refreshing, I would suggest keep it more compact rather than enlarged sections.
Looking forward for the next 40 Years…
    Best wishes

  10. Congratulations on your 40th birthday!
You have given us (your readers) a birthday gift: a beautiful Web site. Love it!
Being in NY, I read NY Times regularly, and being a Mysorean (by birth and spirit), I read SOM regularly.
Keep going to be a healthy centenarian.
