Elders Citizens Council hosts Theatre Songs prog.
Mysuru: The Elders Citizens Council, Jayalakshmipuram, recently arranged a Theatre Songs (Ranga Geetegalu) programme by Rathnakara of Bengaluru and Govinde Gowda troupe from Mysuru.
The programme comprised singing of old theatre songs and delivering dialogues from historical dramas like ‘Mahabharata’ and ‘Ramayana.’
The prominent participants included the octogenarian, Kukwa Venkatarama, Govinde Gowda, Mruthyunjaya and others, who voiced the old theatre songs with their melodious voice at a high pitch even at the ripe age of 80 to 90 years and immersed the audience with interest and pleasure.
Another artiste Kiragasur Rajappa, with his mastery over harmonium music, along with singing of melodious songs and clarinet and tabla by D. Ramu and Jayaram, was very pleasant to ears.
Apart from the music, the dialogue presentation in the epic and historical dramas including Bhakta Prahallada, Rajasooya Yagam and many ancient theatre dramas by artistes like Govinde Gowda, Kukwa, who is a retired Commercial Tax Department employee and others drew much applause from the audience.
Krishne Gowda, Chairman of the Elders Citizens Council, welcoming the artistes to the programme, said that this was the first time the Council is holding such a nice programme and lauded their rich musical talent in theatre songs as also in presenting the drama dialogues even as senior citizens and appealed to the people in large to give more opportunities to such theatre artistes with a view to encourage the younger generation also to take up the art to much higher levels in future.
A mimicry programme presented by Vijayakumar was also entertaining.
Venkateshaiah, Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks. S.V. Gowdappa, Chairman of the Building Trust, V.N. Achar, Treasurer and Committee Members K.V. Ramanath, Ramanna, Nagaraj, Latha and others were present. More than 200 members witnessed the event.
