Mysore/Mysuru: Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa has regretted that there are no lessons on great theatre personalities such as B.V. Karanth in the curriculum of theatre schools of the State including Sanehalli Rangashale, Neenasam and Bharatiya Ranga Shikshana.
He was speaking after releasing ‘ Krishnagarudi Rangakarmi L. Krishnappa-75’, a felicitation volume on theatre personality L. Krishnappa at a programme jointly organised by Rangayana and Mysuru Kadamba Rangavedike at B.V.Karanth Rangachavadi in Rangayana premises here on Saturday.
Wondering how students can come to know of the contributions of great theatre personalities in the absence of lessons on them, Cariappa attributed this to the failure in documenting the works of theatre personalities.
Pointing out that actors and the Director hog the limelight in theatre and cinema, Cariappa said that the works of backroom artistes, technicians and others are less known to the audience. As such many talented personalities have failed to come to limelight, he observed.
Stating that some even question the need for bringing out a felicitation volume, he said that it is difficult to educate the future generations to make known the achievements of theatre greats, in the absence of one. It is happy to note that a felicitation volume on L. Krishnappa has been brought out marking his 75th birthday.
Highlighting the achievements of L. Krishnappa, who has engaged himself in theatre activities at Bengaluru for the past several years, he wished that the almighty bless Krishnappa a long and healthy life.
Retired Professor C.V. Sridharmurthy too spoke. Mysuru Kadamba Rangavedike President Rajashekar Kadamba, actress Shwetha, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal and others were present.
