Theatre helps reach Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas to masses, says former MLA

January 12, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: Former Nanjangud MLA B. Harshavardhan said, theatre is an effective medium to communicate the life, ideology and contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to the people. He was speaking as the chief guest at the 25th show of the play ‘Nijamahatma Babasaheba,’ conceptualised and directed by former Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa, and staged under the banner of Rangabhoomi Trust, Kodagu, at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira premises last Friday.

Stating that Ambedkar remains highly relevant in the present times, Harshavardhan said, both BJP and Congress interpret Ambedkar’s ideas from their own perspectives. “Some agree with these interpretations, while others do not. I have personally tried to understand Ambedkar by studying his life, contributions and struggles,” he said.

He also endorsed the sequence in the play depicting Ambedkar’s visit to RSS office.

Dr. N. Chandrashekar of Adithya Adhikari Hospital & Addanda Cariappa were present.
