Theatre training camp for women

Mysore/Mysuru: The participants of women’s theatre training camp, organised by Sanchalana Mysuru, rendered theatre songs under the direction of Srinivas Bhat (Cheeni) at Chintana Chavadi in Kalamandira premises recently.

Participants presented selected theatre songs from Girish Karnad’s play ‘Hayavadana,’ G.B. Joshi’s ‘Sattavara Neralu,’ Chandrashekar Kambara’s ‘Pushparani,’ PuTiNa’s ‘Gokula Nirgamana,’ B.V. Karanth’s ‘Panjara Shale’ as well as a few Gandhi Bhajans, Kabir’s Dohas and Vachanas composed by Allama Prabhu. 

Earlier, speaking after inaugurating the programme, senior theatre artiste Indira Nair said, “This is really a special event because well-known theatre music composer and director Srinivas Bhat, who is now carrying Karanth’s legacy forward, is demonstrating and teaching theatre songs to these participants. Music is integral part of the theatre. I wish more number of such theatre training programmes be held in the future also.” Kannada & Culture Assistant Director H. Channappa also addressed the gathering. 

Sanchalana Mysuru President and Theatre Camp Director Deepak Mysore and artiste Sandhya Dinesh were also present during the occasion.
