Mysuru: A retired lady teacher, who had allegedly stolen gold ornaments and a diamond bracelet worth about Rs. 8 lakh at a gold expo in Bengaluru, has been arrested by Bengaluru’s Subramanyanagar Police in Mysuru.

The accused is 64-year-old Zaheera Fathima, a resident of Udayagiri in city. Zaheera, who is suffering from heart related problems, is living alone after the demise of her husband. She had worked as a teacher in Gulf for a few years and had returned to India during COVID pandemic. She was jobless since then.

Zaheera, who came to know about the gold expo being held at a hotel on Dr. Rajkumar Road at Subramanyanagar in Bengaluru, visited the expo during which she allegedly stole a diamond bracelet and two gold chains and the gold showroom manager had lodged a complaint with Subramanyanagar Police.

The Police, who had registered a case, collected footages of CCTV cameras installed in the gold expo premises. While going through the footages, the Cops identified Zaheera as a possible suspect and based on available clues arrested Zaheera in Mysuru.

Though she initially refused of committing the crime, she confessed after she was shown the CCTV footage. Subramanyanagar Police said that Zaheera had pledged the valuables in two pawn shops in Mysuru, which have been recovered.
