Alumnus of Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled (RMSD) makes it to Indian women’s cricket team
As women’s cricket is picking up pace with the first season of Women’s Premier League (WPL) held this year, budding players can now hope to get their due with more opportunities to showcase their talent.
With growing popularity of the game among women, the first ever Indian women’s cricket team for the blind is all set to play the upcoming T20 Bilateral Series for the Blind to be held at Nepal starting from April 23.
The 17-member squad includes an alumnus from the Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled (RMSD), Mysuru — T.C. Deepika.
Daughter of Chikkathimmappa, a farmer and Chithamma, a housewife, from Karithimmannahalli, Doddaballagere post, Gullikutte hobli, Sira taluk, Tumakuru, Deepika, who studied from 1 to 7th standard at Karnataka Navachethana Residential School for the Blind, Tumakuru, joined RMSD to study from 8th to 10th standard and completed her SSLC in 2017-18.
Deepika played her first cricket match representing RMSD in 2018 at MUDA Sports Complex in Vijayanagar. It was a friendly match between JSB School, Ramanagar and RMSD girls teams.
Deepika had emerged as the Best All-Rounder taking 5 wickets and 26 runs in the match.
Deepika, a BA final year student at Vijayanagar 1st Grade College in Bengaluru, is now attending the Indian camp at New Delhi.
Two students of RMSD clear UGC NET
Two students from Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled (RMSD), Mysuru — G. Sahana and S. Anagha — have done their institution and city proud by clearing their UGC NET in English Literature and Kannada Literature.
Sahana, daughter of N. Gundanna and G. Gowramma couple, started her schooling at RMSD in the year 2008 when she was in 3rd std. After completing SSLC in April 2016 with 91.86%, Sahana moved to pursue PU education at Marimallappa’s Pre-University College in Mysuru and cleared PU examination with 90.2% in 2018.
Later, by joining Maharaja’s College she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Journalism & Mass Communication and optional English (PJE).
Currently, Sahana is pursuing Master’s degree in English from the University of Mysore. She has an ambition to work in the Government sector in administrative roles, as she believes it would be a great opportunity to serve the public and contribute to society. In the long run, Sahana aspires to work as an Assistant Professor, as it is her passion to teach and work with students.
Anagha is the daughter of K. Sathish and K.N. Pushpalatha. She joined RMSD for 1st std. in 2003 and completed SSLC in 2015 with 88% marks. Then she pursued her HEGP at Marimallappa PU College and passed with 68%. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in HSK at Maharani’s Arts College and is currently pursuing Master’s degree in Kannada from the University of Mysore, and is currently in 3rd semester.
Anagha aspires to become a Kannada Professor and would like to pursue a Ph.D in the same field. Additionally, she is doing Vidwat in Music (vocal) under the guidance of Vidushi Meera Manjunath and Vidushi Sukanya Prabhakar.
About RMSD
Started in 1988, Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled is a free residential school for visually challenged girls. The school operates under “Child-centric project” and is supported by the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, Government of Karnataka.
What started with two students is now a huge residential school that is changing the lives of hundreds of visually impaired girls. It not only provides quality education, but also helps in holistic development and prepares students to live a life with dignity outside the School.
Extra-curricular activities like dance, yoga workshops, bird watching, singing competition, vocational training etc. are a part and parcel of life at RMSD. The school follows the State syllabus learning through Braille system taught by highly qualified teachers and imparts technology upgradation basic & computer skills. It also provides parent counselling and organises house-to-house visits to bring about awareness on the importance of educating and opportunities to visually impaired girls. Also, the all-round excellent performance of the students is a proof to the dedication and high-quality service rendered by the teachers and staff of RMSD.
