Thief in the guise of a devotee steals mangalya

July 4, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru:  A thief in the guise of a devotee stole the mangalya from Goddess Chamundeshwari idol at Sri Chamundeshwari Temple in Gayathripuram here on Wednesday morning.

The Priest was cleaning the Temple premises outside, when the thief entered the sanctum sanctorum, stole the mangalya which was put to the idol of the Goddess and fled.

As the Priest had already decorated the idol and had performed puja, he had not noticed the missing mangalya. But on June 2 evening, the theft came to light while going through the CCTV footage.

The Temple’s Administrative Board has lodged a complaint at Nazarbad Police Station and the Police, who have registered a case, are investigating and have launched a hunt to nab the thief.
