Think before making unrealistic promises

Sir,

There has been a lot of confusion and chaos regarding the election promise of the “Five Guarantees”  by the present Congress Government of Karnataka.

It would have been more decent if only the Congress party had thought twice before making such unrealistic promises. However, I do agree with Rama Jagadishan (Gruha Jyothi Guarantee: Why can’t Govt. follow simple and straightforward approach? in SOM dated June 11) who feels that the Government must retract Gruha Jyothi (200 units of free electricity to all) and replace it with a clear declaration that the price per unit will be reduced with immediate effect. That will solve the confusion and our people are more wise to accept this change.

Another guarantee which is definitely unrealistic is the free payment of money to unemployed youths. This looks absolutely ridiculous and could surely make our youth lazy and irresponsible in the long run !

Rather, lots of employment opportunities could be created at a faster speed by understanding how to rightly tap the human resources. Hope the Government would provide all the five guarantees in a most just and satisfactory manner.
