Mysuru: The V.V. Puram Police have registered an FIR in connection with an incident in which a youth allegedly brandished a machete and threatened a resident of Gokulam in the early hours of Oct. 6.
The Police have taken one person into custody and seized the weapon. They also conducted a spot mahazar.
The incident occurred on 1st Main Road, Gokulam 3rd Stage.
According to the complaint, V. Prajwal rented out a room on the third floor of his house in August to two college students, B.S. Rakshit of Madikeri and B.M. Sumit of Periyapatna.
Prajwal alleged that the tenants frequently brought girls to the room. He said, he advised them to concentrate on their studies and warned them that they would have to vacate the room if the behaviour continued.
On Oct. 3, the tenants allegedly invited around 10 friends to the house, who shouted and made noise through the night, disturbing neighbours.
When Prajwal asked the tenants to vacate the premises, they reportedly pleaded for one final chance.
However, at around 1.19 am on Oct. 6, one of their friends allegedly arrived carrying a machete. He reportedly stood in the street, called out Prajwal’s name, hurled abuses and threatened to drag him out of the house and kill him. The incident frightened residents of the locality.
Despite the threat, the Police had initially registered the matter as a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR) instead of an FIR.
Following media reports and the intervention of the City Police Commissioner, permission was obtained from the Court as required under the procedure and an FIR was registered.
