Three arrested for assault on Sand Artist’s parents

Mysuru: The Nazarbad Police have arrested three persons in connection with the assault on well-known Sand Artist M.N. Gowri’s parents at the Sand Museum at the foot of Chamundi Hill. On Oct. 19, Gowri’s parents 55-year-old Nagalambika and her husband 65-year-old Nanjundaswamy were assaulted by some unidentified youths.

The incident occurred around noon on that day when Nagalambika, who was engaged in maintenance of the sand sculptures, rushed out on hearing some commotion. She saw her husband Nanjundaswamy being assaulted by three or four youths. When Nagalambika tried to intervene, the youths assaulted her badly, which was recorded by a CCTV camera.

Scanning the CCTV footages, the Police arrested Syed Asru, Aijaz Pasha and Nazeer Ahmed, all commission agents of Kauvery Silk Udyog that is near the Sand Museum. Their job is to get customers to the shop for a commission.

Police sources told Star of Mysore that over four to five persons were rounded off and yesterday night they were paraded in front of Nagalambika and Nanjundaswamy who identified Syed Asru, Aijaz Pasha and Nazeer Ahmed. Police said that the proprietors of Kauvery Silk Udyog Chand Pasha and Kabir were also parties to the assault and they were absconding.

Police said that they have obtained definite clues about Pasha and Kabir and they would be arrested soon. Kabir has a couple of cases registered against him, including assault and criminal intimidation, at different Police stations in the city, Police added.
