Three arrested for assaulting Cops on duty

Mysuru: Udayagiri Police have arrested three persons for assaulting Police personnel on beat duty and have launched a hunt to nab others involved in the assault.

The arrested have been identified as Waseem, Akbar and Mujahid.

On Saturday at about 10.45 pm, Police personnel Venkataramulu and another personnel, who were on their regular beat duty near the Water Tank in Kalyangiri, saw a few youth standing with their bikes at an vacant site near a school and talking loudly disturbing the residents.

When the Police personnel questioned them, the youths reportedly abused the Cops using foul language. When Venkataramulu took out his cell phone to call his higher officers, Waseem, caught hold of Venkataramulu’s hand, twisted the hand, snatched the mobile phone and threw it on the ground, while Akbar and Mujahid tore his (Ventakaramulu) uniform.

Meanwhile, when Venkataramulu’s colleague rushed to his rescue, the accused tried to assault him besides threatening to kill him.

Following a complaint from Venkataramulu, Udayagiri Police, who registered a case, arrested the three accused and have launched a hunt to nab others who were with the accused.
