Three artistes from Karnataka among 44 Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardees

M.D. Pallavi to receive Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar

New Delhi:  Four artistes from Karnataka are among the eminent personalities who have been selected for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar announced for the year 2018, respectively. 

While Puppetry artiste Anupama Hosakere, Theatre Director S. Raghunandan and Bharatanatyam exponent Radha Sridhar have been selected for the Akademi Awards, Sugama Sangeetha artiste M.D. Pallavi has been selected for the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar-2018.  

Also, the Akademi unanimously selected Zakir Hussain, Sonal Mansingh, Jatin Goswami and K. Kalyanasundaram Pillai for Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow (Akademi Ratna Award). The General Council of the Akademi has announced a list of 44 artistes from the field of Music, Dance, Theatre, Traditional/Folk/Tribal Music/Dance/Theatre, Puppetry and Overall contribution/scholarship in the Performing Arts for Akademi Puraskar.

The awards will be presented by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at a special ceremony for which the date is yet to be announced. The honour of Akademi Fellow carries a cash reward of Rs.3 lakh while Akademi Award carries Rs. 1 lakh along with a Tamrapatra and Angavastram. 

Meanwhile, Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar comprising a cash prize of Rs.25,000 will be presented at a ceremony by Akademi Chairperson.
