They are accused of extorting money from tourist vehicles at KRS
Mandya: A Head Constable and two Constables, attached to KRS Police Station have been suspended on charges of allegedly harassing drivers of tourist vehicles and extorting money from them.
The suspension orders have been issued by Mandya Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi to Head Constable Purushotham and Constables Anil Kumar and Prabhuswamy.
As thousands of tourists arrive to view KRS Dam, these three Police personnel were deployed at KRS for bandobust and to maintain hassle-free traffic.
However, the Constables were reportedly extorting money from tourist vehicles by targeting tourist vehicles from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and other States which led to tourists complaining about the inconvenience caused by the Police personnel.
Members of the public, who had videographed the Constables demanding money and forcibly collecting the same from the drivers, had uploaded the videos on social media platforms, which had gone viral. It is learnt that the public had also lodged complaints with Police Officers in this regard.
Taking the issue seriously, Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi, has issued orders suspending the Head Constable and two Constables.
It is said that though several complaints were made against the three Police staff, no action was initiated by higher officers. Fed up with official apathy, the public uploaded the videos of the Constables extorting money from tourist vehicles on various social media platforms, forcing the Police authorities to initiate action against the erring Constables.
