Mysore/Mysuru: A three-day State-level convention of All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) began in city yesterday. This is the 11th such conferences being organised in Karnataka.
The convention is discussing the problems faced by workers and the general public in the light of the Union Government implementing various anti-labour polices exploiting the labour force. By bringing amendments to Labour Welfare Laws, the Government is committing atrocities on the working class of the nation, they alleged.
As part of the convention, a workers’ procession was flagged off from Town Hall and returned to the same venue after passing through various streets of the city. Later, a public meeting was held in Town Hall premises where AITUC General Secretary Amarjeet Kaur inaugurated the conference and spoke.
Amarjeet Kaur accused the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to curtail the powers of trade unions. The Government is pushing back India to a time dating back to 150 years. Kaur said and called for the unity of the working class.
“There is uncertainty haunting the working class people and those from the low and mid-income group category, thanks to the economic policies of the Government. The Government is initiating reforms and these are driving the working class jobless. Added to the burden is inflation where prices of all essential commodities have skyrocketed,” Kaur noted.
Other leaders like CPI State Committee Secretary Sathi Sundaresh, Mysuru District AITUC General Secretary H.R. Sheshadri too spoke on the occasion. AITUC Karnataka State Committee President Com. H.V. Ananta Subbarao presided. AITUC State General Secretary D.A. Vijayabhaskar, N.K. Devadas, H.B. Ramakrishna and others were present.
The conference deliberated on organising protest rallies against the pro-corporate policies of the Centre and to counter the efforts of the Centre to break the unity of the working class.
