Mysuru: The Department of Horticulture will be organising a three-day Mango Mela at Kuppanna Park in city from May 23 to 25, said Deputy Director of Horticulture Manjunath Angadi.
Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, he said that the Mela will feature a variety of mangoes including Badami, Raspuri, Mallika, Sindura, Thothapuri, Dasheri, Amrapali, Sakkaregutti Imam Pasand and Dilpasand among others.
He also said that Kesar, a special variety of mango from Koppal will be an added attraction.
This year farmers from Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Ramanagara districts have registered for the Mela.
“The farmers have been instructed to exhibit and sell only naturally ripened mangoes as the use of chemicals has been banned. On finding chemically ripened mangoes being sold, action will be initiated against such farmers and they will not be allowed to take part in the Mela,” said Manjunath Angadi.
Apart from banning the sale of chemically ripened mangoes, the Department has also initiated measures to ensure the Mango Mela is completely free from plastic. Additionally, the farmers will also sell jackfruits. This apart, the Horticulture Department will sell saplings of various flowering and fruit plants during the three-day Mela.
