Mysuru: A three-day training workshop on ‘Cause of Death’ organised by the District Department of Statistics commenced at Administrative Training Institute (ATI) here this morning.
About 300 doctors from 8 districts of Mysuru Division have been selected to attend the workshop with about 100 doctors attending daily. The doctors will be briefed by Resource Persons on the importance of the cause of death mentioned in medical certificates which should be explicit with no ambiguity to facilitate compilation of mortality statistics.
Inaugurating the programme ZP Chief Planning Officer Prabhuswamy contended that the Health Department has technologically improved a lot so that statistical data could be sent across the country very easily and quickly. He opined that doctors with good exposure in the field should be able to clearly ascertain the cause of death and mention in the medical certificate.
Citing examples, Prabhuswamy said that mentioning cause of death superficially as heart attack or snake bite would be ambiguous without furnishing more details in medical terms. He further said that effective data collected on cause of death would help to scientifically compile mortality statistics and help physicians to ascertain the exact cause of death.
District Statistical Officer M. Shivamma, Assistant Director M. Prakash, KPME Nodal Officer Dr. Umesh and others were present.
