Three held for assaulting Cop in drunken stupor

Mysore/Mysuru: Saraswathipuram Police have arrested three youths for assaulting a Constable in drunken stupor on Saturday night.

The arrested are R. Mahesh Gowda of K.G. Koppal, Darshan of Srirampura and Hemakumar Gowda of Jayanagar.

Saraswathipuram Inspector Vijayakumar told ‘Star of Mysore’ that on Saturday at about 11 pm, when Constable Mahadevu was patrolling the area in the Garuda vehicle, saw three youths sitting in the bus shelter, opposite to TTL College on Saraswathipuram Main Road. He advised them to go home as it was late and lockdown was in force and continued his patrolling.

When the Constable came back to the spot after half-an-hour, he saw the trio still sitting in the shelter and questioned them. Irked over this, they abused the Constable with foul language and assaulted him, the Inspector added.

Meanwhile, the Police staff, who rushed to the spot, found that the three youths had fled from the spot. Saraswathipuram Police, who registered a case, arrested them on Sunday morning.

Inspector Vijayakumar said that the youths were produced before a Magistrate at his residence, who remanded them to judicial custody.
