Three injured in Somwarpet as rowdy-sheeters clash

Somwarpet: Three persons were injured in a clash between rowdy-sheeters on Somwarpet Main Road on Sunday. They have been identified as Veekshit of Janata Colony, Ajan and Noushad of Bajegundi village.

In his complaint, Veekshit told the Police that Karim Baig, Asim Baig and Sameer from Janata Colony assaulted them with lethal weapons in front of Hanafi Jamia Masjid. Based on the complaint, the Police have arrested three persons.

One more complaint has been filed by Puneeth, who owns a mobile shop, against the same accused. When Noushad was filling petrol to his vehicle at a petrol station, Prajwal of Belur Village came along with eight persons, assaulted him with iron rods and soda bottles. Cases have been booked against nine persons and all of them are absconding.

According to the Police, on Sunday morning, Karim Baig and his men clashed with Veekshit and his men at Janata Nagar. The gangs had arguments again in front of Puneeth’s mobile shop. On the same night, the gang assaulted each other in front of Hanafi Jamia Masjid.

Seeing the situation going out of control, the District Reserve Police intervened and lathi-charged the crowd and brought the situation under control. As a precautionary measure, two KSRP and two DAR platoons have been stationed in Somwarpet.

Kodagu SP Rajendra Prasad, Dy.SP Sampath Kumar have camped in the town. IGP (Southern Range) Vipul Kumar visited Somwarpet on Monday and took stock of the situation.

Speaking to reporters, Vipul Kumar said that the Police had enough information about inter-gang rivalry. The Police have been asked to take action against the accused and arrest them if they indulge in violence.

He said that those who indulge in violence would be booked under Goonda Act and if necessary they would be banished (externed) from Somwarpet to prevent future incidents.
